Glo-pinions: Gamers don’t agree to disagree
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron has been released and the game has received great reviews for it’s fantastic and striking art style. But some have not given it the same treatment, saying that the game’s dated and repetitive gameplay brings it down and sadly doesn’t allow it to reach it’s potential.
One of these reviewers that I would like to bring into the spotlight is IGN. They had given the game a “mediocre” rating and voiced their opinions in their video review. The review had hit YouTube and the video has been getting bombarded with awful feedback, accusing that IGN “didn’t get paid enough” or “IGN only likes shooters, FPSs, and explosions.” Whether or not these comments are actually true didn’t irk me so much. There was one type of insult that I saw in the comments repeatedly, however:
IGN can’t review for s***. This review was horrible. They should just stop reviewing ANYTHING!!! – IGN Commenter
I mean seriouly, IGN is the ONLY reviewer that gave this game a bad score. – IGN Commenter
Every other reviewer gave this game somewhere between 8.5 to 9. – IGN Commenter
1UP: B Joystiq: 4.5/5 GameSpot: 8/10 Eurogamer: 9/10 Destructoid: 8/10 Gamepro: 4.5/5 Gametrailers: 8.6/10 Games Radar: 8/10 Planet Xbox 360: 8.8/10 Official Xbox magazine: 7.5/10 Playstation official magazine: 9/10 Edge magazine: 8/10 Sci Fi magazine: A+ Gameinformer: 9/10 X-Play: 3 out of 5 IGN… – IGN Commenter
Yes. There was a comment just completely consisting of other reviewers scores. It is the highest rated comment for the video.
This is just ludicrous.
If all video game reviews are supposed to all have the same overall score/percentage/opinion, what point is there to having different people reviewing a game? If you’ve played the game and you like it, then great. Why are you watching a negative review or any type of review of the game and saying that the review is wrong? You have your opinion! Why is it such a big deal that someone else ALSO has their own opinion and disagrees with it? For the people who are watching this review and haven’t played the game and are spouting this “review consensus” nonsense, then why are you even watching it? A review is written so someone can voice their opinion on something. You have no right to disagree with them if you haven’t even played it! And if you have played it, I ask once again, WHY ARE YOU WATCHING THE REVIEW? Reviews aren’t made just so you can use it as a way of justifying whether or not your opinion of the game is right! They are there to give you a player’s insight about what they thought about the game!
This really is just a response to these types of people. I don’t usually side with IGN (handing out 10′s everywhere… they gave GTA4 a freakin’ 10! I mean, seriously!) and this is just mostly against the people who don’t seem to understand what reviews are. I have friends who have fought with me about whether or not Starcraft II is better than Halo Reach and one of their main arguments was “It has a higher Metacritic score!” It’s these kind of comments that irk me. You aren’t defending the game itself, but you are just pointing out that more people agree with you. And that’s just stupid.
